Kathryn Roberts, a senior in the Grady College, participated in the fall conference of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers through a fellowship organized and sponsored by Grady’s Cox Institute for Journalism Innovation, Management and Leadership. This year’s conference was held at the City University of New York October 9-10.
Roberts was recognized as a Cox-SABEW Fellow based on her performance in a course on business journalism and a business-related story she wrote as part of Grady’s travel writing program in Prague. She currently interns for Fast Copy Communications, a freelance company in Athens, Georgia, where she writes a variety of business and lifestyle stories for Atlanta newspapers and magazines. After studying abroad in Spain last spring, Roberts aspires to one day become a travel journalist or foreign correspondent for a major news organization.
“The SABEW Conference was a great experience for me. I met many successful journalists and gained a lot of insight into what it takes to make it as a journalist in today’s digital world,” Roberts said. “I realized that I very much enjoy the topic of personal finance and could possibly see myself pursuing that beat. Everyone I met was so encouraging and open to sharing advice on how I should begin my career. New York City was a whole other world compared to Athens and I can’t wait to go back.”
