Banquet honors 2016 Cox Poynter Leaders

Grady students, faculty and guests gathered in The University of Georgia’s Center for Continuing Education on March 3 for a banquet and ceremony honoring this year’s group of Cox Poynter Leaders.

Students selected for the leadership program met once a week since January with Dr. Keith Herndon, visiting professor of journalism. Their sessions included speakers from a variety of leadership backgrounds as well as lessons about leading projects in the digital newsroom from Poynter’s NewsU.

Michelle LaRoche, Development Editor at the Wall Street Journal was the banquet’s keynote speaker. “Listen carefully to others but also trust your instincts,” she advised students. You can watch her keynote speech about leadership in media here.

Dr. Kent Middleton, Director of the Cox Institute from 2012 to 2015, was also honored for his service to the Institute. He retired at the end of 2015. His friend and colleague Dr. Bill Lee recognized Middleton’s service to Grady College. You can watch his speech here.
