Through Digital Natives and skills-based events in the Journalism Innovation Lab, the Cox Institute creates innovation initiatives to develop products, practices and people of the industry’s future.

Leadership & Management

The Cox Institute’s Journalism Leadership Lab offers top journalism students the opportunity to study leadership development principles through programs such as the Levin Leaders and The Lead podcast.

Reporting & Writing

Covering Poverty, a resource for journalists through the Cox Institute’s Journalism Writing Lab, provides stories, tips, tutorials and resources to write and report on poverty.


 

The faculty of the Cox Institute includes: Dr. Keith Herndon, executive director and director of the Journalism Leadership Lab; Dr. Amanda Bright, director of the Journalism Innovation Lab; and Prof. Lori Johnston, director of the Journalism Writing Lab.

Our Mission

The James M. Cox Jr. Institute for Journalism Innovation, Management and Leadership at the University of Georgia  prepares students for evolving  roles in the news media. By sponsoring intensive training programs, industry partnerships and funding applied research, the Cox Institute addresses the strategic challenges faced by today’s  news organizations.
